Brief Description: Fuel Flow Test: Nose High
|
|
Before beginning the nose high tests, I tarted out this session by running the nose level fuel flow test on the right side. I had previously run this test on the left side while I was emptying the left tank to calibrate the right fuel level. For this test, I just used the pitch indicator on the Dynon Skyview to assure level flight and recorded the time it took to fill a 1 gallon gas can. I performed this using the primary fuel pump, the secondary fuel pump, and both pumps together. Final average fuel flow right tank, level attitude: 53.7 gph with variation under 1 gph.
Next, using a modified auto ramp, I rolled the nosewheel up onto the ramp resulting in just under a 12 degree nose high attitude. By adding a nearly full jerry can to the top of the horizontal stabilizer, the nosegear extended to raise the pitch to just under 15 degrees nose high. From there I ran tests for the left and right tanks. Average readings per side were:
Left side, nose high: 61.3 gph Right side, nose high: 51.4 gph
I also ran both tanks down until the pumps started cavitating. Fuel remaining in each tank from the nose high test was under one pint (using the fuel drain).
