Brief Description:  Cabin Heat 2, Siting the Holes

Spent much of the day siting the holes for the heater hose attach points on the firewall. Although I had several options, I was being extra careful to avoid interference with the rudder pedals, fuel lines, firewall stiffening structures (different inside and out), engine mount, and existing wire routes. For both entry points (pilot and passenger), I chose holes as low to the floor as possible and outboard on each side.

Using the heater butterfly valve as a template, I drew the inner and outer dimensions of the hose fitting onto the firewall. Next, I fetched my adjustable circle hole cutter only to realize that the engine mount interfered with the hole cutter/hand drill combo. The backup plan was to use a Dremel high speed steel cutting bit ... by hand. Working slowly in small increments I was able to cut a hole suitable for a butterfly valve attachment.
