Brief Description:  Oil Filter Secure, Cabin Heat 1

At the recommendation of my EAA Tech Counselor, I installed a bolt for attaching a safety wire to prevent the oil filter from backing off during engine operation. Then I installed the safety wire. I'll have him check it out to see if this is what he had in mind.

Next I began installing the cabin heat system. After my vacation, I came back to a cold hangar and decided this was good motivation for installing the heater. Turned out this was a lot more work than I expected.

Step one is to attach the heater muff to the muffler. Looks easy peasy until you realize that you can't do this with the muffler installed (took a lot of trying before I learned this lesson). So, 8 spring clips and a couple of barked knuckles later, I had the muffler off, attached the muff with hose clamps, and reinstalled the muffler. The muff is custom made by Zenith Aircraft and is designed for this engine, but the spacing for the heat muff ports and the engine mount was really tight. I also had to re-route some of my existing wiring. Eventually, it all came together.
