Began installing the center console cover today. The cover is a custom piece purchased from FlightCrafters LLC that covers the bare metal console, surround the controls stick with a boot cover (keeps stuff out of the control well), and pads the top of the console to make the flyin' arm comfortable. The side of the console is a fairly complex shape with 5 separate angles not including the top. The cover attaches with velcro (easy removal for maintenance purposes), so the trick is to install velcro strips around the edges in such a manner they don't fall off later.
The approach I finally settled on was to afix the strips to the console using RTV then secure it in place with A4 rivets with washers on them. The job is a straightforward one, but due to the inaccessibility of the cockpit (due to there being wings on the aircraft), the job requires a lot of awkward stretching and bending to reach all the rivet sites. The aft sides and top are complete. The forward sides and bottom still remain.
Velcro strips installed on top and sides of center console back edge.
Console cover attached to the new velcro strips.
A sneek preview of what this will look like with the seat in place.
