Brief Description:  Left Canopy Side Cover

Took advantage of unseasonably warm (78 degrees F) temperatures to begin installing the canopy side covers today. The purpose of the side covers is to cover the forward arms (left/right) of the canopy that attach to the pivot point up front. The covers serve as a wind block in flight and prevent water from leaking into the cockpit when the canopy is closed. The task consisted of the following steps:

- Prep (trim, file, sand) forward top skin (connection between instrument panel and the firewall) to ensure side cover doesn't interfere.
- Measure factory-provided, rolled aluminum side cover for fit. Mine was about 40mm too long and 15mm too tall - or about normal according to their plans.
- Cut the side cover to size.
- Site and drill out two pilot holes to line up with steel attachment tabs on the canopy rail.
- Drill an oversize hole at the pivot point to allow socket wrench access to the AN4 bolt at the hinge.
- Test and adjust as required.

A lot of learning as I slowly felt my way through this task. It was quite a challenge to visualize the position of the piece given the various radius curves and moving parts associated with its mounting. Left side complete.
