Brief Description:  Left Flap Attached to Drive Motor

Attached the left flap arm to the flap motor torque tube. This task involves drilling a 3/16" hole through the flap control arm which houses the left flap control tube and bolting the two parts together with an AN3 bolt. Today was part two of drilling the hole. In a previous post I decided to wait until I had better (i.e. sharper) drill bits before proceeding. Today, with new drill bits in hand, I was able to finally drill a pilot and then final size hole through the parts. Total drilling time was about 5-7 minutes, but this was with multiple small breaks to shake blood back into my arms from holding the drill and bit so awkwardly.

Once drilled, the bolt slipped right into place. The next big challenge was to get the nut and washer onto the end of the bolt with little room for maneuvering. My solution was to stick the washer to the nut using some fuel lube, holding the nut up against the bolt end using needle nose pliers, then rotating the bolt using my socket wrench while maneuvering the nut around until the threads caught. This process took about 45 minutes to accomplish ... for one bolt!

Here's the flap in motion taken with my phone while standing in front of the leading edge while operating the flap switch:
