Brief Description:  Left Flap Install 1

Began work installing the left flap in the same manner as the right flap, but small differences in the aircraft build added some challenges for this flap.

Like the right flap, the slot for the control tube arm pin was a little short, so after lengthening it, I also fabricated a new flap control plate to account for the new slot size (see images 1 & 2 for the same work I did on the right flap). However, I also found the flap had 2 other places requiring adjustment. The first adjustment was the trailing edge of the flap just touched the fuselage step plate requiring some light trimming for clearance.

The second adjustment was the control tub arm prevented the flap from going far enough inboard to align the piano hinge. The distance was very small, around 1mm, but it prevented the flap from easily aligning for installation.

My solution is to trim (grind, actually) 3mm off the end of the control tube so it will end up slightly more inboard allowing the piano hinge to line up properly. I'll have to do this work at home - that's where I keep my grindstone.
