Brief Description:  Wing Aft Spars Bolted

Finished bolting the aft spar bolts for both wings. The aft spar position determines two factors in final wing position: Wing sweep angle and angle of incidence. Although the wing moves very little after being attached to the main spar, there are still a few millimeters of play at the back of the wing that should be matched between wings.

When adjusting sweep angle (fore/aft position of the wing tip), the most important factor is symmetry. The plans provide a measuring methodology in which the final position of the wingtips are compared to one another to verify the symmetry (a line from the centerline just forward of saddle attach point to the outboard rivet of wing main spar) not to exceed 50mm in difference. Without adjustment or final bolting, this measurement was:
Left - 17' 5/8"
Right - 17" 1 3/4"
Difference - 1 1/8" or 28.6mm. Already good to go.

After adjusting both wingtips slightly, with no undue stress, that difference was reduced to 22mm, well under the 50mm limit.

For incidence, there is no precise measurement point in the plans, so I chose the distance between the top of the aft edge of each wing to the upper longeron rivet line. With no adjustments, both wings were within 2mm of 360mm, so that is the number I chose to match them to.

With each wing adjusted and clamped with a C-clamp, I match-drilled a pilot hole from inside to out with the Tight-Fit attachment. From there, it was a simple updrilling to the final AN5 bolt size. Both bolts are now installed and torqued.
