Brief Description:  Right Wing Installed

Attached the right wing. Leading up to today, insertion and removal of the wing had become more doable as skin and rubber trim were correctly fitted into place. It also became easier as wing positioning was better understood. All this was accompished using 5 "bulleted" bolts (i.e. ground down to narrower, threadless shafts with rounded ends). Today we traded out those 5 bolts for 6 final bolts (4 x NAS6205-22s and 2 x NAS6205-23s) which was, to say the least, more challenging.

Even starting with 5 ground down bolts in place, the final bolts required considerable "encouragement" (i.e.tapping with a block of wood) to push them through the holes. Add to that the near impossibility of attaching washers and SL nuts to the upper bolts through the seat access panel, and a 20 minute job ran on to about 2 hours. The good news is 5 Bolts are in with nuts on them, 2 of the nuts are tight enough to be ready for final torquing, 3 of them require a universal joint (which I will soon add to my socket collection) and one of them (bottom outboard) requires some extra thought to be able to tap in that bolt. But otherwise, the right wing spar is pretty much attached. I'll still need to attach the aft channel, but not until the left wing spar is attached.

Speaking of which, the left wing initial fitting has begun. It slipped into place readily and is ready to begin wing skin trimming.
