Brief Description:  Rudder Installation 2

Got back to the hangar today. First I started by assembling a large floor-standing fan which came in quite useful today (92 degrees). Next I assembled a new set of shelves as I was outgrowing my other set. Finally, I got down to business.

First real work I did (where I started the builder's log) was to re-measure the horisontal stabilizer. Sure enough, when it's level in both side-side and pitch and the twist is zeroed out (tape measure from canopy bow center to leading edge corner of both stabilizer ends), the two right side mounting brackets are off about 8mm. I have no idea why. My guess is I somehow messed up the holes when I first drilled them in place. Now I have everyting I need to refabricate two more mounting brackets.

With that mystery solved, I continued with the rudder installation. Today I reamed out the rudder hinge bolt holes to accommodate steel bushings that fit tighty in the holes. Then I attached the bottom hinge and marked the rudder for where the top hinge attaches (while plumbing the rudder). With the 8 holes marked, I drilled out 2 of them to make sure I had done it right. It fits, it's vertical, and it swings back-and-forth 20 degrees. Still a bunch to do, but feeling good about this one.
