Brief Description:  Wiring Through the Cockpit 3

Continued running the wiring aft through the cockpit by starting on the right (passenger) side. Before I could start installing the wiring brackets I'd fabricated a couple days ago, I had to finalize all the components running down the right side - which consist of the ELT power/ground/GPS input, the ELT control wire (like a phone wire), the VHF radio antenna cable, the right fuel tank quantity wire, and the ADS-B antenna cable.

First step was to fabricate the ADS-B antenna cable which uses a basic BNC connector on each end. However, before I could attach the cable to the ADS-B black box, I needed to trim the extra (unused) wires from the engine management system (EMS) sensor D-sub wire bundle - 12 wires. To ensure no odd grounding/circuit connections occur, I cut all the 6 foot long wires down to 8 inches, put heat shrink tubing over the end of each individual wire, put a large heat shrink tube over all of the wire ends togther, then folded and tied off the wire bundle to an out-of-the-way spot on the avionics shelf.

At this point I could attach the ADS-B antenna cable to the black box and feed the antenna cable down the right side with the rest of the cables. Since all of these cables ran along the floor of the avionics shelf, I fashioned a couple of zip-tie spacers to raise these wires and cables up above the lip running around the perimeter of the avionics shelf on their way aft through the cockpit. Once all the wires/cables were strung aft, I zip tied them together every 6 inches and then wrapped the entire bundle in flame-resistant, braided expandable wrap and started fitting the wiring brackets to the upright structures in the cockpit. I got 2 of them pilot-hole drilled out before knocking off for the day.
