Brief Description:  Avionics Bay Wiring Cleanup

Started the (probably) lengthy job of cleaning up the avionics bay wiring to make sure everything is neat, secure, and orderly. Spent about an hour deciding the best way to go about it - decided there are some things that will be disconnected/reconnected along the way to route some wires more cleanly. But I made a dent in the problem.

I also realized that there's no need for me to use the portable power supply to test circuits any more with everything pretty much all hooked up now. Instead, I finally connected the +12V cable to the battery to see first hand how I'm doing with the wiring. I let the battery charge for a few minutes then held my breath and flipped on the Master Switch. After a loud click (the master solenoid), things started coming to life. Once the Skyview monitor was up and running, a quick look at the engine instruments revealed that I was drawing ~2 amps power continuously (makes sense), but the battery was 0.0 volts. Well, I knew that was wrong so I noted the problem and kept checking. The fuel selector switch lights weren't illuminating either. Hmmm. The backup boost pump comes on with the power panel switch and the main boost pump comes on when the ECU switch is thrown. Moving the trim button makes the trim relay click so that seems to work.

So I start to investigate the battery voltage meter by digging into the Dynon installation manual and sure enough there's a wire from the engine monitoring system (EMS), the red wire from pin #1 of the 37-pin D-sub, that's suposed to be attached to the +12V post on the battery. A quick search through the remaining 14 unused wires from the 37-pin D-sub revealed a red wire with one of my wire labels attached to it that read: Volt Meter. Something for tomorrow.
