Brief Description:  Engine Bay Final Wiring 1

With the fuel pumps as the last bit of wiring in the engine bay, I decided to clean up months of haphazard zip-tying and clamping and clean everything up.

The first task was to re-route the #2 cylinder head temperature probe wire which I had running aft along the #2 and #4 cylinder heads. My Tech Counselor said I could do beter than that so I figured out a way to secure an adel clamp using one of the engine baffle machine screws. The machine screws were 1/4" threaded bolt - do you think I had a small, heat resistant adel clamp with that size bolt hole? Well I did after I modified it! (2 actually, I did the same thing for the #1 cylinder)

After that, I put together a spacer using a zip-tie and a small piece of stiff hose. The zip-tie snuggly wraps around two items with the piece of hose locked in between them. This helps add stability to the wiring but prevents the two parts from coming into contact with each other. The example shown in image #2 below is where my oild temperature sensor wire crosses over the oil pressure hose. Note the small piece of hose between the two lines.

Next, I cleaned up the wiring running along the lower and middle engine mounts by enclosing all the various wires (EGT, CHT, Oil Temp, Oil Press, Fuel Press) into flame resistant expandable sleeves. To prep the engine mount for the sleeves, I evenly spaced silicon tape wraps around the engine mount to help prevent chafing/rubbing by the zip-tie against the metal engine mount. If you've never used silicon tape before, it's a miracle substance. It won't stick to anything except itself where it actually fuses together, but it's a strong, stretchy material that can patch a steam pipe!

Once the tape was in place, I zip-tied the sleeves into place along the engine mounts, tightened up the adel clamps along the pilot side of the firewall, and called it done for the day.
