Brief Description:  Closed Firewall Break / Fuel Pump Relay

Closed up the firewall break for the main Engine Control Unit (ECU) plug. The engine countrol unit is attached to the cockpit side of the firewall and has a 36-pin cannon plug that connects the ECU to the numerous engine performance sensors. The plug that passes through the firewall is over 2" in diameter but the wire loom feeding the ECU is only about 3/4" in diameter. The solution, then, is to attach a steel pass-through that tightly encloses the wire loom and covers the oversize hole for the plug. I had originally assembled this months ago, but now that I'm tying down all the wires more permanently, I decided it was time to close up the pass-through.

I also selected a location for the engine fuel pump relay and temporarily installed it. The fuel pump relay allows the ECU to control one of the two boost pumps (the primary boost pump) so that whenever the engine is turning the boost pump is providing fuel pressure, but whenever the prop stops rotating, the fuel pump cuts off. A nice safety feature.

The second boost pump will be manually controlled from a switch on the instrument panel and serve as a backup. ULPower recommends you don't run both pumps at the same time continually as it can result in pump overheating and eventual failure. So the manual pump will be used for critical phases of flight: (takeoff, landing) to add redundancy for short periods of time.
