Installed the VHF comm antenna today. It was nice to finally take advantage of the skin doubler I installed in the top skin about a year ago. Installation was straightforward. I drug out my laser level to make sure I got it planted right in the middle of the top skin. The antenna came with a template so drilling out the screw holes and cable connector hole so it was essentially a no brainer. The biggest challenge was working up through the access bay through the belly. I definitely need some knee pads ... and being 20 years younger might help too!
Antenna test fitting with clecoes through pilot holes.
Antenna after finishing the installation. The skin doubler rivets are visible.
