In preparation for fitting the engine cowling, I installed the propeller for the first time this morning - a fairly simple job. The task involved:
1. Determining which 6 mount holes to use on the propeller shaft flange (out of 12 possible). 2. Inserting aluminum bushings into the 6 chosen propeller shaft flange holes. 3. Fitting the spinner mount to the bushings, right side up - making sure the side openings on the spinner will be appropriately aligned. 4. Attaching the aft propeller hub to the shaft flange via 2 locking bolts. 5. Attaching the forward half of the propeller hub with 4 bolts into the aft hub and 4 more bolts through the aft hub, spinner mount, and prop flange.
Now that I have the prop in place, I can determine the proper location/spacing for the upper and lower halves of my engine cowling.
Spinner mount hanging on propeller shaft flange via 6 aluminum bushings.
Aft propeller hub secured to the prop flange via 2 locking bolts.
Forward prop hub secured with 8 bolts (4 to aft hub/4 through prop flange) with blades installed.
