Brief Description:  Muffler Installation 2

Continued the muffler installation today, but this time with the proper tools picked up last night at my local Airplane Depot.

As predicted, removal and reinstallation of the remaining 2 exhaust pipes (cylinders #2 & #4) took about 5 minutes with the longer allen wrench. Fitting the muffler on to the 4 exhaust pipes was pretty simple once I realized I was trying to install it with the #2 and #4 cylinder pipes crossed over each other (hey - it was early!).

Once I was sure it was going to fit ok, I removed the muffler and coated the inside of each pipe fitting with anti-sieze for that inevitable day when the muffler must be removed. I then re-fit the muffler into place and secured it with the 4 springs that pull the muffler tight against the exhaust pipes. Next, I installed the 2 exhaust pipe supports that connects each side's pair of exhaust pipes (L and R) to the upper engine mount via an aluminum bracket. Lastly, I retightened all 16 allen bolts that hold the exhaust pipes firmly against each cylinder via the new copper crush seals I installed with them.

There are two large hose clamps that run through the exhaust pipe supports and around the muffler for added strength, but I'm holding off on those for now until I fit the cabin heater muff around the muffler.
