Installed the left canopy latch assembly this morning. This involved:
- Determining the fore/aft location of the latch by comparing it to the canopy frame. - Determining the inboard/outboard position of the latch by measuring where the upper longeron sits underneath the canopy rail. - Measuring the locked/unlocked positions of the latch hook. - Cutting a 3/16" wide slot into the canopy rail, just outboard of the top longeron, that's long enough to accommodate the latch hook travel from locked to open. - Drilling the 2 attach bolt holes (AN3) through the latch assembly, the longeron and the canopy rail. - Countersinking the two bolt holes into the canopy rail. - Bolting the canopy latch assembly in place to test fit.
It took a lot of tweaking (aka filing) to get things where I wanted them, but it turned out pretty good.
The left canopy frame running along the canopy rail with the latch near the aft end of the frame.
A closer look at the latch assembly through the slot on the rail and hooked over the canopy frame.
