Brief Description: Steering Box Slide Cover & Bungee Support
After receiving a new step drill bit yesterday, I set about to completing a couple of firewall tasks I'd skipped earlier. First, I drilled out a 5/8" hole through the center firewall stiffener structure that supports a small pipe used to support the bungee cord used as the nosewheel shock absorber.
Next, I installed the steering box slide covers on either side of the center firewall stiffener. These covers hold the steering box slide which are pieces of steel sheet metal that the nosewheel steering rods pass through. This combined device (cover and slide) helps prevent engine compartment air leaks or fire leaks from entering the cabin where the steering rods pass through the firewall.
