Brief Description:  Engine Mounts & Longerons

Drilled out the top and bottom engine mounts which sounds simple on the surface, but involves a lot of measuring. In addition to eventually holding the engine, the engine mounts also serve as the forward anchor point for the upper longeron and the hinge point for the canopy. In other words they've got to be in the right place.

The biggest chore today was leveling. Leveing the rear fuselage fore, aft, left, and right. Leveling the forward (cabin) fuselage left and right. Propping up the firewall 42 millimeters above the rest of the cabin floor. Inclining the firewall 13 degrees aft of vertical. Ensuring the firewall was level left to right. Lots of leveling.

Attaching the steel engine mounts consisted of pre-drilling the holes in the mounts, clamping the mounts in place, then drilling through the firewall (for all the mounts) the cabin floor and lower longerons (lower mounts) ad the forward end of the upper longerons (upper mounts). Now with the engine mounts and upper longerons clecoed in place, the forward part of the aircraft is beginning to gain the rigidity to hold its shape.
