Brief Description:  Left Side Updrill, Cabin Floor Initial Fitting

Updrilled the left side of the rear fuselage except for the area around the horizontal tail frame which I will complete when my replacement parts show up in a couple of days (See the 9 January entry for an UPDATE).

Began work on the cabin floor. Laying the cabin floor out on the table in front of the rear fuselage gives me my first indication of the final aircraft dimensions. It's really big in a garage, but it's really not all that big for an airplane! It was surprisingly flimsy feeling at first blush, but that was about to change.

Today I got the main reinforcing parts attached to the cabin floor. This includes:

- The heel support, a spanwise structure where one's feet rest on the floor.
- The pedal bearing channel, another spanwise structure which will house the rudder pedal assembly and the wheel brake cylinders.
- The floor stiffener, a lengthwise channel attached to the outside (bottom) of the cabin floor which provides reinforcement along the centerline ofthe cabin.
- Two seriously thick longerons which run fore-aft along both sides of the cabin skin adding additional longitudinal strength.

After attaching those 5 elements to the cabin floor, I can easily see how it will hold even a big guy like me now. And there are more parts to come...
