The Corvair engine was built with four internal bearings supporting the crank. For aircraft use, many add a larger external bearing to the front of the engine to help absorb loads from the swinging prop. This was done on my engine and is shown here in this photo. This is just one of many modifications to convert the engine to aircraft use.
