Brief Description: Cabin Frame Complete - Or is it
|
|
This evening I dug in and worked on finishing up the roll bar. I put both channels on, carefully marked where to cut and everything looked great. It took quite a bit of force to get them down onto the straps. But, with sand, weights, and clamps everything progressed along well.
I measured the gap between the two channels to make sure it was the same all the way around. (I had read a number of builders who had the problem of the gap growing on the corners.)
I have checked, double checked, and triple checked the width of the bar. After everything was drilled and clecoed, the whole thing shrank. It is now 1/4 of an inch too narrow. Dang!
I cut a 2x2 to use as a spacer and pried the roll bar apart to the correct width. When I did, the perfect cut where the two channels came together, grew into a gaping gap. (I have read where others just filled the gap but I think I might do this critter over again.) I will see this every time I hop into the cabin!
I am leaving the hangar feeling pretty blue. I have spent about 7 hours on this dang thing... and will need to replace one of the channels. If I do that, I'll need to replace both strap because I could never get the holes to line up again. AGH!
