Brief Description: Inspecting the rudder and elevators
Ken came by this evening and checked the work I'd done during the past week. I don't know what I'd do without him. Again, he shared some helpful hints on how to get the results I want. He marked about 2 dozen rivets that he recommended I replace. (Almost all of them were acceptable, but not as good as they should be.) Most of the rivets were on a spar where I'd held the bucking bar level to the spar rather than the rivet.
He also looked closely at the horizontal stabilizer and the aluminum brackets I'd crafted. Early in the project I was really crappy at driving rivets and had dinged the brackets. I had order another piece of angle iron from Van's to redo the brackets. (Ken agreed that they should probably be replaced.) My worry was the when I had drilled out two of the holes, I'd made the holes too big. (This is my third set of brackets and when I replaced them the first time... I wasn't very good at drilling them out.) Out of the 18 bracket holes, there are two that he recommends I use a size larger rivet. But, the good new is,,, everything will turn out structurally sound!
