Brief Description: Rudder construction and destruction
AGH!! Another screw-up today. Things progressed extremely well with the construction of the rudder spar, ribs, and other parts. The couterbalance fit perfectly, the reinforcement plates fit right, and everything was going as smooth as silk until I riveted on the tip rib. The angle of the rib kept the squeezer from squeezing the rivet correctly. (Like an idiot, I didn't just bend the thing out of the way.) I ended up drilling out the rivets twice and the hole seemed too big, so I drilled it out for a larger diameter rivet. Which, I bent over when I tried to squeeze. The hole stretched out of shape and I decided to cut my losses and order a new rib and spar. (Before I sent the order into Vans, I drilled out all the other parts connected to the spar to make sure I didn't goof them up as well.)
