Brief Description:  Riveting the skin

WOW!! A day when things finally clicked. I can actually see some progress. After yesterday's frustration with riveting, I gave my dad a call. (He has never driven a rivet... but he's always willing to learn.) We practiced on some scraps until the rivets started looking good... then dove into the spars, ribs, and skin!

After about 200 rivets, we got it down to a science. For the spars and ribs, I did the riveting and dad held the bucking bar. For the skin, it worked best when I held the bucking bar with one hand and the flush riveting part of the rivet gun with the other. That way, I could keep the head from dancing around. I would be watching the bucking bar... but holding both. We measured the first 20 or 30 rivet heads as we went, but then we sould only check 1 in 20. I got so that I could pretty well tell, just by looking at them.
