This is another of the items I have been fretting about for a bit. How do you install the tail position-strobe lights so you can remove it. The fiberglass rudder bottom tip doesn't give you much room to do anything.
I was going to epoxy the nuts into the fiberglass... but with the luck I had with the wing tips, I decided that wasn't a smart idea.
So, my first solution was to build a aluminum bracket that will be riveted or bolted onto the firberglass. The nut will be glued to it. In my first attempt, I used aluminum that was too thin. So, I made another that looks like it will work geat. I used the lighting bracket as a pattern and trimmed the auminum to size. I ended up using silicone adhesive to glue the nuts onto the aluminum. When I attach the bracket to the fiberglass fitting, I will fill the rest of the hole in the fiberglass with epoxy (or something else). This should keep the nut from spinning. I'm thinking of bolting the bracket on... so I can remove it if I need to. (The other option is riveting... which shouldn't be a problem eiither. I'm getting to be an expert rivet remover.)
