Brief Description:  FOT ground block installation

Attached the FOTGB fabricated yesterday to the upper firewall where it tilts forward, between the central and right-hand ribs of the upper fwd fuselage. (Pic 1) The neg battery terminal will be directly below the 5/16 brass bolt, with room to lift the battery into and out of the box. In the close-up view (Pic 2), gray caulk like stuff seen at the top is Biotherm 2000 silicone.

Used Bob Knuckolls's method to solder a ring terminal lug w/5/16 hole to an AWG2 wire. I.e., fill the empty space in the uncrimped terminal with short pieces of solid copper wire from a piece of Nomex cable until tight. Then squirted a bit of liquid rosin flux into the joint, heated it up w/a propane torch, and fed in solder from the rear of the terminal.

Heat shrink over the barrel of the terminal insulates and provides some additional strain relief. Bent the ring 90 degrees so the wire can run straight up to the bolt.

Pictures below taken 8 Jun 2014, in case you're wondering how the engine magically appeared. I haven't updated the log very regularly, and have a lot of catching up to do.
