Brief Description:  Flap rods completed; port root fariing; battery dr

Work done on 1/20 and 1/21.

Completed port root fairing: scribed to fuselage side and smoothed, installed with rubber strip. Fabricated 4 short 8-32 screws: 2x for the upper aft-most root fairing attach over the flaps; 2x over the C-to-V converter PCBs on the tanks. Screws were marked with a small drop of red lacquer.

Primed, then painted the hex flap extension rods with Rusto Dark Machine Grey. Next day, installed the rods. The starboard rod was a bit short: it disconnected with the jam nuts completely backed off and running the rod to the end of one rod end bearing. Fabricated a spacer to "add length back" to the rod. Installed the "right angle" rod end bearings to the flaps with lock washer and blue loctite as called for in plans, tightened the jam nuts, daubed yellow lacquer on them, and the flaps are done.

I inadvertently left the EBUS switch in the on position; battery was down to 6V. Left the battery on charge (and came back on Mon and Tues) until the de-sulfating light on the charger was blinking. Second time battery has been deeply discharged. (First time it was at zero-zero V and required several hours on a "dumb" charger to get the smart charger to kick in.) I think the battery capacity may be compromised and a new one will be required before 1st flight.
