Brief Description:  Elevators

Bent edges of left elevator motor cover with flanging tool so the edges come out flush with bottom of elevator when the cover is screwed down. Set up the motor and LED indicator on the bench to get motor in "centered" position. Put it back into the elevator, and cut the threaded control rod to length. Decided to put an AN470AD4-4 rivet in the trim control horn so the two halves dont chafe one another. Drilled control horn hole to 1/8"--pin is a tad sloppy; might need a bushing. Also might want washers (or two o-rings?) in the gap between the horn and pivot, both sides.

Put the right elevator counterwts in place and torqued bolts to 30 in-lb. Inboard ctrwt is proud of the edge of the skin, but gap between the ctrwt horn and HS will be large enough to accomodate. May trim it later during final balancing.

Reamed holes for ctrwts on left-hand elevator. Put rod-end bearings into both elevators to correct depth. (nom 13/16, 7/8 max, so I aimed for 27/32. Used the temp assy pins as "pointers" to ruler held against spar web. Lock nuts on rod ends NOT torqued!!! Open end box wrench used on some rod ends (my sched 40 wrench broke!) left marks...need to replace?

Test hung the elevators. L.h. had no ctrwt. R.h. balanced well with Al angle and all but 5 clecoes removed. There will be weight to be removed to do final balance--as it should be.
