Brief Description:  Rudder and Elevator

Got the tight qtrs dimpler for 3/32" rivets from Cleaveland. Female half of the dimple mounted in a strip of 1/4" thick steel. By C-clamping the tool to the DRDT- 2 frame on a block of 3/4" maple, there is room to do the trailing holes of the rudder top and bottom rib.

Sanded and scotch-brite polished edges of all rudder skeleton components. Beveled edge of ctr wt skin per plans with the belt sander.

Clecoed the right elevator counterweight assy together and drilled #30 for the rib-joining rivets and #40 for the skin-to-rib holes.

Cut the right elevator lead ctr weights per the plans. Drilled out the holes w/ #12 reamer for the 10-32 AN3 bolts. Test fit the weights into place--should probably use new nylock nuts when I put it together for the last time.

On the inboard side, the lead weight is proud of the edge of the skin and rib. Per several web logs, this is normal and other builders mill the weight down flush. Also, these builders recommend not cutting the wts per the plans until final balancing is to be done...oops. Well, we'll see if I've take too much off and I can always order a couple of new weights.
