Brief Description:  Visit to Catto Props

I ordered a 3-blade Catto prop w/nickel leading edges. They had one for me earlier than expected. To save shipping costs, Karl and I drove my pickup from Pleasanton to Westover Field, KJAQ, to pick it up at Craig's factory, Nice they're willing to be there on a Saturday.

Craig offers a service to CNC rout the blade cutouts in the spinner, so I took it along thinking I'd leave it there if I liked the price. I didn't--$400 bucks! The spinner had been left in the cab and at that point I said no, I'll just take the prop, please.

Well, as seen below, the prop they had was missing the nickel leading edges! Ooops. Um, no, I won't take THAT prop...what's the deal? We took the factory tour while Craig's daughter figured out what happened. Turns out the customer slotted for this prop (who pushed out delivery, which gave the slot to me) didn't order the nickel LE's. But when they called me to select paint, they didn't update the work order to include nickel.

Someone probably spied the spinner sitting in the cab: Craig said to make up for the snafu, he would CNC the spinner for free. I didn't think to bring the bulkheads with me. (Drilling the bulkhead screw holes is part of the service.) No problem, he had plenty of bulkheads on hand, just bring in the ones from your kit when you come to get the prop you actually ordered.

Disappointing not to bring home a new shiny. But they had the prop ready just 2 weeks later, and threw in an extra $200 discount as an "oops" fee. I thought it gave the house an extra bit of Christmas spirit, but Tricia said it can't stay in the living room.
