Brief Description:  Homebrew pitot tube mast

Number 1 son graduates in the Spring and the Company had a Good Year--money for the fuse is finally available. As number 2 son is learning welding, I decided I could fit up a AN5812 compatible hunk of 6061-T6 streamlined tube as sold by Gretz (except they are made of heavier steel) and SafeAir (made of Al--but sell for about $100).

Invested $26.88 to get 12" 0.049 wall thkness steamlined Al tube (2.023 x 0.857 in maj x minor axis) and 1 ft2 of 0.032 6061-T6 (bare) sheet Al from Wick's Aircraft Supply. The sheet will become the flange that's mounted in the wing just outside the aileron bellcrank bay.

Time recorded here is for making the flange plate (use s/l tube to draw outline, drill and nibble flange plate short of the line, then finish with files to the line).

Also made a backing plate and a washer plate with a somewhat larger s/l hole in them, and fabricate stiffening angle to tie the mast to the wing rib. Essentially copied the Gretz design, stored in C:Program FilesAerowareKitLog Pro v2.0DocsGretzPitotMastInstallationManual.pdf.
