Brief Description:  Builders Notes

I've decided to build an RV8 after many years of research and consideration of allot of factors (performance, safety, quality, functionality, looks, reputation,etc..).

Having co-built and owned a plans built BD-4 for over 15 years I had learned some things I will incorporate into the RV8. I'll be selling the BD4 and transferring the engine (70 hours since new) to the RV8 along with select avionics (dynon) and auto pilot.

Build Goals:

Safety:
Redundancy
1. Dual independent EFIS
2. Standby electric system (SD-8)
3. Battery back-up for flight instruments
4. Auto Pilot
5. Limit modifications to cosmetic (no major structural mods)
6. Design the cockpit using sound ergonomic principles (switchs / ckt breakers on left side)
7. IFR capable / Weather / Traffic / GPS Nav / Moving Map
8. HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) operation - elev/rudder trim and radio xmit button on stick...flaps and starter on throttle.
9. Heated Pitot / AOA probe

Maintainability:
1. Corrosion resistance - all internal components alodined and epoxy coated
2. Routing of cables, wires and connectors within reach of access panels
3. Use of nut plates vice regular lock nuts for hard to reach areas
4. Extra access panels for avioinics and wiring inspection/repair
5. Do NOT paint the fuel tanks - polish aluminum instead to avoid fuel stains
6. use of wiring conduit as much as possible.
7. minimize use of wiring connectors when not required

Utility
1. KISS - keep it simple
2. Only modern GPS based NAV/COM no VOR/ILS/LOC/MK BKN
3. Fixed pitch prop
4. IFR
5. Cockpit not overly done (its not a mercedes)
6. Keep it light as possible without compromising structural integrity (no structure mods)

Engine: Xp-360-B1AC2 from the BD-4

Fixed pitch, IFR
