Brief Description:  Fuel Tank

began final assembly of right fuel tank components. Rather than making a wing jig I chose to use the ribs themselves as the jig. By using to the two end ribs as the form I cleco'd them in place without any proseal. Then installed the interior ribs, starting with the middle rib one at a time working outwards. Having built and maintained another airplane (BD-4) with a wet wing I know from first hand experience that leaky tanks are a pain in the A**!!! I took extra care to prep all surfaces with scotch brite pads, metal prep, and MEK prior to final assembly. I also applied proseal to the entire rib flange area as well as in each hole to ensure even the rivet head would be sealed. Than after riveting I used a shaped pop-sickle stick to form a smooth filet along the edge opposite the flange and applied generaous amounts of proseal to cover all rivets and the flange edge. I wore two layers of latex gloves at all times making it easy to strip one pair off and replace without making a huge mess. I also had some special proseal wipes that I would periodically clean all the tools with (before stariting each rib). To install the rib I found it easiest to start by clecoing the aft most holes first working forward. In almost every case the last few hole aligned easily the first time.
