Brief Description:  Install Outboard Rib & Trim Spar Tips

The difficult task here was trying to find ways to clamp the center rib in place and still allow the room necessary to be able to drill the rib to the spars. I tried several ways, including spring clamps, small bar clamps, but finally used cleco clamps to hold the rib in place. I located where on the spars I wanted to rivets to go, then used a Sharpie and my small tri-square to mark those lines along the spars. Then I clamped the ribs in place, and used a straight edge laid along the lines to extend the lines onto the rib flanges. Once those were located, I used the small tri-square again to mark the hole location on the flanges. I then drilled a hole using a 1/16" x 12" bit through the flange and into the spar just enough to accurately locate the hole in the spars. Once that was done, I was able to use a 12" #40 bit with a stop to drill the holes in the spars, and in the flanges. Then the ribs were clecoed to the spars, and all four holes were match drilled using a #30 x 12" bit with a stop. Then all holes were deburred. The holes inside the spars were deburred with scotchbrite. I plan to not rivet until the tail rib and cross brace are located, match drilled, and deburred. Then I'll do all the riveting, except for the aft rivet on the cross brace which gets done when the tip bow is installed.

I didn't have to trim the spar tips; they were already done. I did have to trim the tail of the machined rib, however.

The diagonal cross brace was located at this time, too.
