Brief Description:  Elevator counterwieghts

I am not happy with the quality of the elevator counterseights. t looks like the wieghts were cast into cold molds, leaving a very poor surface finish and visible voids. So, I decided to re-cat them. Since I want to use lost-wax casting for other parts in future, this seemed like a good chance to get some experience.

The shape of the weights seemed simple enough, so it decided to carve then out of paraffin wax, to which I coud attach sprues and air vents, and then cast the whole lot in plaster of paris. After melting out the wax, I intend to bake the Plaster mold at about 400F to drive out the water, before pouring the lead. That's was the plan, anyway

Sabrina and Josh joined me in the workshop, and we spent a happy couple of hours carving wax and making wax shavings. Two lessons learned - Paraffin is lousy for carving, and wax shavings get everywhere. My shop may neverr be clean again. However, I did eventually get a set of wax "masters", that accurately matched the drawing on page 9-15
