I decided to have another go at casting the elevator counterweights. Rather that lost wax casting, I decided to try making a two part mould into which I could pour the lead, and which could then be opened to remove the solid cast.
A search of Google suggested that lead could be cast in wood moulds - at least for fishing weights. So I decided to try making moulds using MDF - mainly because I have a bunch of it laying around.
I started by laying out the finished weights on a piece of MDF, and then cutting blocks to define the outer walls of the mould.
We're headed to Florida on the 10th, so there won't be much more progress until we get back on the 20th.
