Test fit for bolt length on the flaperon control spacer to connect push rod to flaperon. To Soaring Aviation to get two AN5-23A bolts. Too long. Back to exchange for -22s. Connected right controls and tried movement with control stick. Hung up. Turns out the aft edge of the flaperon control spacer, C75C2-10, hits the arc cut-out about half way through its travel. Will have to trim skin. Connected the left controls. The spacer hits almost the entire arc of travel. Will have to remove the IB flaperons and trim. Told Bob, an A&P and pilot/owmer of a RV8 and he said it is all part of the 51%. Yeah, right.

Used a drawing compass centered on the pivot to mark the skin to enlarge the arc slot for the flaperon control spacer. Drilled a few relief holes the used snips to trim. Finally used file and emery cloth to dress edges. Tried the right one, including flaps down. Clearance OK.

Norma applied Cortec to the four areas on the flaperons where the counter weights will be riveted. The left IB flaperon on and off a few time to get the arc slot to clear the flaperon control spacer using a combination of snips, files and emery drums. Will have to tighten bolts to make sure clearance is OK.
