Brief Description:  Wing fairings-1

1. Made a joggle in the aft uper wing fairing each wing. I first spent 1.5 hours trying to figure out how best to do this. The plans say to use a hand seamer but that didnt work so well for me and the metal brake did only the first bend well. The second bend wouldnt fit. So I ended up just taping some .040 aluminum strips on each side of the bend line and adjacent to one another like a step. Put the whole shebang in my vice and smashed the whole thing to gether super tight. This resulted in a nice little joggle that looks good enough.

2. removed enough material from the inbd edges of the fairings so that they could be clecoed to the pre punched holes. Once clecoed I match drilled the forward most hole into the wing spar flange.

3. The forard fairing starts at the spar and overlaps the rear fairing in the joggle step and wraps around the leading edge and under the wing and clecos into the spar flange and bottom skin. To get this to fit, I had to remove just a little material at a time on the scotch brite wheel until it would wrap around with out binding. Removed the fairing.

4. Marked a 1/4 inch reference line from the edge of the wing tank skin from the spar fwd and around the leading edge and then back to the spar . This line will be used to line up the pre punched holes on the fairing and to maintain edge distance for drilling the screw holes.

5. Reattached the fwd fairings with a cleco in each end into the spar webb and made sure the reference line was visible in each pre punched hole and that the fairing lays flat on the wing skin edge. It does fit nicely on the left side but could use some tweeking on the right side. Saving this for tomorrow.
