Brief Description:  Alternate air cable, Fab mount, Fab fab upper plat

I was under the wrong impression that Having carb heat would be the same as alternate air. After calling Vans about some things I got that clarified. BOTH carb heat and reg air in thru snorkle are filtered and if the filter were to clog for what ever reason, having an alternate air source would be necessary. So I pondered location and decided on the right side and on the wall of baggage compartment. Reason for this is I did not want it next to any other cable pull knobs. This set up is a one time deal. Pull the knob and resetting requires manual reset. I dont want to accidentally pull it thinking it was carb or cabin heat which can be reset from the cabin. Therfore, this location is furter forward and hardr to reach. I will need to make anextra effort to pull it. I drilled the hole in baggage and then decided that a low point on firewall might be good since the air door will be on the bottom of the FAB. I ran the bowden cable thru and secured it. Inside the fwd baggage area, I clamped with two adel clamps and piece of vinyl tube as anti chafe. Its out of the way enough that the baggage area is still usable.

The mounting plate required a cut out and I had made a basic outline previously. Here is where the other question to Vans was for. This is a new Avstar carb that replaces the Marvel one. They are ALMOST identical. But NOT. My plans and cutout diagram will not work for this carb exactly. Furthermore, Vans supplies an allen head pipe plug to replace the plug that came in the carb. I think this is so the notch can be cut up flush to the drain valve body. Not so for this. The supplied plug does not go in far enough to become flush. Vans guy seemed suprised by this.hmmmm. So, I notched the best I could and also around the plug The resulting air gap by the plug is small but might need to fill with RTV. That will be a question too as I dont want any rtv coming loose and getting ingested into carb. This small air gap might be insignificant anyway. I spent a great deal of time sanding and filing this cut out but fin
