Brief Description: canopy bottom edge final cut and polish, Frame dri
1. Measured the min edge distance for a 5/32 rivit hole- 10/32 all around the bottom edge. Put some pin stripe tape all around to show where the min cut line would be. Double width the tape for extra margin which provided 17/32 all around. Note: The plan was to drill holes to 1/4" for grommet inserts but that would require a 1/2 i27 called for. This isnch edge distance which I did NOT have for half my drill holes on the right side. Therefore, I couldnt see why I should do 3/4 the holes with a rubber grommet insert and the rest just according to original plans. Therefore I decided this canopy will be done to plans spec with the only exception being that the holes will be 5/32 instaed of the #27 size called out. This is slightly larger and should allow the canopy to expand a bit more with out binding and stressing on the rivit. Besides,I dont have a #27 plexiglass drill bit! I was a bit to overzealous on trim cutting the right side which then shut the door on a modified attachment. Oh well, maybe the next plane or next canopy will be different!
2. Cut along the bottom edge of my pin strip line. Sanded real good! Started with 80 grit paper and ended with 400 grit. Tried to get a nice rounded edge as well.
3. My wife markedn on some tape above the drilled holes some intersecting line which will aid in locating the hole locations with skirt positioned for mark/drill.
4. Inlarged all the pilot drilled holes in the canopy frame for attachment of the plexi bubble to #30.
5. Confirmed and final marked the drill locations on the remaing frame for installing the skirt. Once marked. I center punched them and then pilot drilled to #40. Only got the right side done. Will finish up tomorrow.
6. Family arrived for some hangar grilling and airplane rides. It was a good day!
