1. Marked the oval for the ignition pas thru and cut out and cleaned up. Drilled the mounting holes. 2. Finished cleaning up the left aft corner of the baffles for assembly. Ill leave the final scratch removal and polish for later when its mounted. 3. Rivited on the no 4 cylinder baffle to the two spacers and the no4 aft cylinder/oil cooler baffle. 4. Rivited the 4 plate nuts that hold the oil cooler in place 5. Rivited on the upper brace to the tho corner baffles 6. Rivited the aft case baffle to the oil cooler baffle 7. Installed the rivited 3 pieces on to the engine. Thought this would be next to impossible but found it rather easy. I will install the spacer tubes and bolts next session
Points to note: The plans call for a dome head rivit line along the bottom row that secures the doubler in place. I almost went with instruction but couldnt understand why it would be ok to have rivits protruding directly into the cylinder fins. I finaly decided to counter sink the thicker baffle some and then use the smaller head NAS rivits to rivit that area flush.
Similar issue with the bottom hole that attaches the oil cooler baffle to the aft case baffle. I counter sunk but ended up using a Pop Rivit in that hole. Just couldnt get a clean acces to that hole with what I have. It should be fine.
The plans say to mount the oil cooler as high as possible. If RV* and using Vans oil cooler, Mount it as low as possible!. The side by side planes use the same baffles but have wider cowling which means more clearance!. The * requires a hatchet job to the left baffle and the oil cooler can only go so low before a plate nut interfears with the cylinder. Just saying.... Its been a bugger on the left aft corner for me.
