Brief Description:  Puncture hole in rear crankshaft plug

Cut open the plastic envelope around the engine and pulled ou the 4 desicant bags
Set fly wheel aside
Reviewed Lycoming sb 1435 again

Used a solid center punch and hammer and punched a hole in the front steel plug being extremly careful not to miss and hit propellar flange. I small sledge would have made this easier but not necessary. Just took more whacks! Once the plug was punctured, I used a drift pin to man handle or pry the plug out using the punctured hole and not maring the crank or flange.

Looked in to the crank and could easily see the rear plug about 7 inches back and partialy blocked with a oil return tube that is slightly off set. This needs to be punctured for fixed pitch operation ( or removed). The SB says puncture can be 1/8" to 3/16"

Went to store and purchased a 12" long phillips screw driver. Sharpened the end on grinding wheel.

Carefully lined up the pointed end of screw driver just below cross tube so I wouldnt damage it and hit the handle of screw driver a couple times with a Plastic mallet. Checked to be sure I was not drifting off target and did again. This took several times but eventually pierced the metal plug.

I used a ling 1/8" drillbit ( shaft end) as a gauge of hole size and would put screwdriver in and wack once or twice and measure. Once the drill bit slid in, I used the screwdriver a couple more times untill the drill bit fit loosely and called it good.

Cleaned front end of oil and put a bead of high temp permatex thread seal around plug seat and the plug edge

Inserted the plug which fits loose until wacked with hammer. The flattening of it expands it to a tight fit. Problem is, How much is enough?? I used a ball peen hammer centerd on the plug and hit with another hammer. Also used long sockets. It might be fine now but I will check on this some more and wack some more if required

Removed the prop govenor oil return line as it is not needed in my set up. This required losening the flared end nuts, removing the clamps, And removing fittings from crank ca
