Brief Description: First cuts to rudder bottom cap for fit-1
Started on the rudder bottom fibergalss cap. Decided to do this before I finished the other empenage tips because I thought I could get this cut and verify clearence with tailwheel singer and then maybe take it home and work on the epoxy and sanding portions. That might allow me to get more done and more comfortably too but we will see.
I first made a series of measurements and and then finaly decided to just make card stock cutout template. Transfered to the cap and traced cut lines.
I remember reading Steve Riffes log and mentioning a clearence issue with the stinger and so I traced a line aprox 9/32 from edge down and drew a ltapering line to aft tip. After I did this I noticed a faint line already drawn the same distance down that I drew on other side. So now I wonder If Ill have the needed clearence or not. Thats later though.
Traced on the cut lines around the horn with my template and started making cuts with the dremmel. Oh, this was after I trimmed off the tapered line that I placed and drew the cut lines around the horn.
Tried getting the cap on several times and each time making small cuts and filing untill I could get it on. Does not fit at ALL!! Finally man handled the gugger into submission and got it on enough for initial asessment. Not good! More trim cuts are needed for sure.
