Brief Description:  ELT mounting

My first plan was to install the elt in the baggage compartment and then thought I could put it behind where the battery mounts since I will be putting the battery on firewall. So now that I have the turtle deck on, I decide I want the elt on the longerons in tail. I guess I like to make it difficult!

I found that the cut out from my panel for the 696 is the perfect size mount for the elt tray bracket. It is 6"X 7.75" and 1/16 thick. Plenty sturdy. I cut 2 6 inch lengths of 3/4 AA and drilled a couple holes #40 and then match drilled those to the upper and lower longerons and clecoed.

Clamped the mount in place on the AA, marked and drilled 3 #40 holes top and bottom. Removed and deburred all. Drilled up to #18 to accept #8 screws with the angles. Put screws in with plate nuts on the angle and tightened the scres down and then marked the rivitholes in the plate nuts for drilling. Removed the screws and then drilled the plate nuts rivit holes #40.

Positioned the elt tray on the mounting plate and marked hole location and drilled using the pre drilled holes in the bracket as a guide

made a spacer for between the tray and the mounting bracket so that the tray will lay flush

This was difficult to do well in the tunnel and was very time consumming. I suggest anyone who is even remotely thinking they might want a similar mount to do so before installing the turtle deck
