Brief Description:  windscreen fairing-2

Removed the peel ply from lower fairing. Because I used less epoxy with new tecnique, The surfase was kinda blotchy and uneven. Not sure I like the method but it wont take much filler to smooth it out.

Had brenda start on cutting many strips of cloth 2.5 and 3 inch wide. While she was doing that, I built up the area on the skin fwd of the canopy skirt to get close to even with eachother.

I then used same wetting method as yesterday with black pigment and started to lay in the 2 inch pieces of cloth centering on the gap between the canopy and the windscreen. Extended the cloth down to the skin and canopy skirt junction as well. I then did thi with the 2.5 and 3 inch pieces trying not to overlap the electrical tape too much and not extend aft off the packing tape.

Applied the peel ply

Here is the idea. Right or wrong, I hope to get the canopy open without destruction. If successful, I can determin iff I need to cut the afte edge of fairing over the top.I went 3 inch wide to make sure I covered the canopy rivits when closed. I will trim as required. Then I can also lay in more fiberglas to thicken up if needed. Remember I only did 3 lay ups here. Then It will be micro and sanding for smooth finish.

The other questionable part of this lay up, The glass over the fwd canopy skirt. I was torn between just glassing the windscreen over the canopy, Then breaking the canopy loose and starting on the canopy skirt overlap after ward. That would have allowed a possibly easier time getting this thing open. We will see tomorrow.
