Brief Description:  redcube positioning and fuel pump venting

not much accomplished today other than some computer time trying to find what I should do about having a fuel line made or not.I originaly thought Id attach red cube fuel meter to the gascolator via a short brass nipple. Only problem is that the red cube ends up orientated 180 degress in wrong direction when properly tightened. So I decided to just try a short lengtgh of 3/8 aluminum tube. Cut it up and flared ends etc and attached. I only have one dash 6 nipple so I used some 45 degree ones to see how it looked. The instructions have the cube level after a short straight length but Ive heard of it working fine on an incline like this too. Just want power leads going up. I then loosely attached the vans supplied hose. It seems to fit ok but I think a slightly shorter hose may be needed and obviously would need to fire sleeve the 2 inch aluminum tube. The only way this will work is if I make a rigid support for the red cube so that it doesnt flex and brake the flared end of tube. Sooooo. Im loking into how short of a flex fuel line I can get instead. The Jury is still out on this whole deal!

To make sure I got at least something done today, I decided to make the support bracket for the fuel pump vent line. Did this IAW drawing OP35. I didnt pay attention to the size of the tubeing required and assumed it was 1/4" tube like that used for the brakes. Wrong! No wonder I had a hard time getting it bent properly. Only issue is that I drilled too big of a hole in the left lower cowl hinge. for the tube exit. What was required was ATO 028X3/16 for the tube and bend. I filled the over sized hole by placing a short piece of PT035 plastic tube over the end and that filled the space nicely.

The bracket was made from AS032 and drilled and attached to firewall with two AD42-ABS blind rivits.

The assembly is secured to the bracket withg two plastic zip ties and a piece of PTo35 plastic is used to insulate the alum tube from the bracket.
Attached the tube from fuel pump. Just need to secure with safety wire later.
