Brief Description: Tail light and strobe wire harness
Was going to work on rudder cap again today but decided it might be wiser to get wiring for the tail light and strobe worked out first. 1. From the light I added extra length of wire to each of the 4 wires and long enough so tthat they will run to the forard end of the cap. These wires were attached simply enough with but splices and when done I wrapped them in self fusing tape secured each end with zip ties. It should be water tight too.
2. Crimped on molex pins to the ends of wire extensions and installed a 3 pin molex body that I ground down smooth to the power leads for the position light and the strobe and the synchronizer. I crimped on a 2 holer molex for the ground
3. Drilled a #8 hole in the bottom of rudder horn and attached a wire lead and ring terminal for grounding the light. The other half of 2 hole molex body on end of this wire.
4. Added a second ground wire for the light body and mounting ring and crimp on ring terms on each end. I drilled #30 hole closer to aft end and simply rivited on the grounding wire using a pull rivit. note: If it should vibrate lose over time, It can be cut and tied into the ground point at horn. But right now its good enough so that light can be pulled out 6 inches or so and the ground removed via scre on the mouting ring.
The shielded wires from fuselage will need to have the shield terminated. Im still not sure how Ill do that yet and keep with ease of removal. To be continued!
Not related to wiring, I applied a ridge of epoxy to the mounting surface because the surface was sanded down so much it was real thin and was thinking that the light would not be too secure. Of course it was Not dry enough to sand before I was ready to head home.
