Brief Description: Reinstall front stick grip and wire
Got my stick grip back from Tosten after some repairs and installed it back in the front cockpit where it belongs. I decided to change the routing of the cable slightly too by drilling a 7/16 hole in the aft and aft section of center spar chanel. Installed snap bushings in the drilled holes.
FIRST! I checked all ten wires from the grip for good continuity before doing anything with install. Once satisfied, I preped each wire for d-sub pins and crimped them on. Mating up the wires was easy since they are colored. Each wire pin connection is secured together with shrink tube. Then bundled and covered with spiral wrap. Could have used a connector body but I dont plan on taking the stick out again. If I do, I can cut the shrink tubes off and insert pins into a connector body at that time. Just trying to keep it simple here.
I secured the wire bundle to a floor rib with a cushion clamp. The wire bundle will also be secured to the fwd rt side of control column. I prepped a nylon anchor with amazing goop and adhered to the column. Will tie the bundle to it when dry. If it comes loose later, I plan to just pop rivit it back on. But this stuff is pretty strong and should hold for a long time. We will see...
I called SteinAir and ordered a harness for my Garmin SL40 comm radio and Garmin gsx327 Transponder. I just decided I didnt want to mess with trying to figure out the pins, though I find the actual task of crimping the dsubs quite fun actualy. Dont know how much time it will save me but at least I know Stein does good work.
